Lawry Field Building

The first "Lowry Field" was dedicated by the Colorado Air National Guard in 1924, named in honor of Francis Lowry. The field served as a training ground, innovation center, and historic landing site for aviators like Charles Lindbergh. The first Lowry Field was occupied by the 120th Observation Squadron, an aerial unit of the Colorado National Guard.

Charles Lindbergh's Landing: On August 31, 1927, Charles Lindbergh made a historic landing at Denver's original Lowry Field, located at 38th and Dahlia, during a publicity tour after completing his groundbreaking cross-Atlantic flight.

Occupation by the 120th Observation Squadron: The first Lowry Field was occupied by the 120th Observation Squadron, further solidifying its role as a crucial training and operational center.

Regrettably, the Lawry Field Historic Building has recently fallen victim to vandalism, posing a severe threat to its structural integrity and historical significance. The recent acts of destruction underscore the urgent need for rehabilitation efforts to ensure the preservation of this invaluable piece of aviation history.

We have started the restoration of the Combs Aircraft Corp building. This property suffered damage last year due to vandalism.

  • We have cleared the debris from the building and grounds.

  • We have leveled out the ground and fitted the outdoor area with Class 6 concrete  roadbase.

  • We have patched a 20' X 10' hole in the foundation to keep the viagrants out, along with other holes and windows that were accessible

  • We are in the process of restoring flood lights and cameras to minimize vandalism
